Producing reliable, carbon-free energy and life-saving medical isotopes on the shores of Lake Huron.

Bruce Power and their supplier organizations are playing an influential role in the future of clean energy and more. From producing 30 per cent of Ontario's power annually, to being a leading supplier of medical isotopes used in cancer-fighting treatments and sterilization of medical devices, innovation is truly at work here in the Municipality of Kincardine.

More than 4,200 high-skilled people are employed by Bruce Power. There's an indirect creation of thousands of jobs through the high concentration of associated nuclear companies providing support to the company and Ontario Power Generation.

These companies inject billions of dollars into our provincial economy every year while producing safe, reliable, and affordable energy with almost no carbon emissions.

Our Council is committed to working with Bruce Power to better understand the needs and challenges that we can strategically plan to assist with as they continue to grow and expand. We are active members in:

Preparing for the future

In 2016, Bruce Power began their Major Component Replacement (MCR) project, creating 22,000 jobs and adding $4 billion to Ontario's economy each year, extending through to 2033. According to ReNew Canada, it's the third largest infrastructure project in the nation.

On July 5th, 2023, the Ontario government announced their support for long-term planning and consultation work to explore the expansion of clean nuclear at the Bruce Power site, also known as "Bruce C." At the 2024 Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) annual conference, Natural Resources Canada added to that support with up to $50 million in funding for pre-development work of the Bruce C project.

Many of Bruce Power's employees also call the Municipality of Kincardine home and we continue to work with them and their supplier companies in partnership on programs that foster a healthy, vibrant, and diverse community. These initiatives range from supporting our youth, to cultural outreach, and environmental stewardship, just to name a few.
