The Municipality of Kincardine Council Meeting was held in Council Chambers at 1475 Concession 5, RR #5 Kincardine at 5:00 p.m. on July 24th, 2024.

Highlights from the meeting include:

Engagement on the Secord Monument Update Report

Municipality of Kincardine Council directed staff to prepare a report with recommendations for Council’s consideration related to one of the two monuments honouring Dr. Solomon Secord, including possible options for public engagement. Council approved the resources needed to engage the community in meaningful conversations and learning, about equity, diversity and inclusion which will assist Council in its decision-making regarding this Secord Monument. Dr. Laura Mae Lindo was chosen as the consultant for the engagement process. Dr. Laura Mae Lindo presented her summary to Council at of what was heard throughout the first phase of the engagement process.

Market Stands Zoning Report

Zoning review determined that the Municipality of Kincardine’s Zoning By-law does not include a permitted use that captures the vendor/market operation. Council directed Municipal and County staff to bring a zoning amendment to Council for consideration, which would include a new definition for a “Vendors Market”, general provisions, and specify which zones the use would be permitted in.

2026 Election Voting Method Report

The next regular Municipal and School Board Election will be held on Monday October 26, 2026. As per the Municipal Elections Act. Legislative Services Staff, along with Clerks from across Bruce County, have started to plan for the 2026 Election. To assist with this planning, staff recommended that Council choose a method of voting for the 2026 Election now, to secure the appropriate election vendor. Council passed a By-law to authorize the use of alternative voting methods for internet and telephone voting, for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections.

Upcoming Meetings

The next Municipality of Kincardine Council meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. This meeting will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Administration Centre, 1475 Concession 5, RR #5, Kincardine.
