Representing the Municipality of Kincardine at the Association of Municipalities Ontairo (AMO) Conference

KINCARDINE, ON – Leaders from municipalities across the province are in London, Ontario for the 2023 Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) conference this week. A delegation of council members and staff are currently in attendance through to this Wednesday, August 23rd.

The conference provides officials the opportunity to meet with various ministries to discuss local matters, as well as learning opportunities through conference sessions.

“It’s a vibrant and dynamic environment with the opportunity for participants to work together to solve some of the issues facing our communities,” said Jillene Bellchamber-Glazier, Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality of Kincardine.

A delegation of representatives from the Municipality met with the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Lisa Thompson, the Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, on Sunday. The discussion centered on a pilot project that will help us notify our agricultural landowners of opportunities available through Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS) Canada and earned the support of Minister Thompson in moving forward.

The delegation also met with MPP Deepak Anand, the Parliamentary Assistant for the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. This discussion focused on the opportunity to source additional funding for local partnership efforts related to skills development supporting our local economy.

“We’re advocating for growth and infrastructure expansion that will support our community as it looks to grow alongside the planned expansion of Bruce Power,” continued Bellchamber-Glazier. “Our presence at AMO helps us to reinforce that we need to be at the table working with all levels of government to achieve our goals.”

Other key session topics at the conference include housing, women’s leadership, electronic permitting, healthcare transformation, and more. The event features more than 60 speakers and sessions, all with roots in the responsibilities of a municipality.
