Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan Received by Council

KINCARDINE, ON – An initiative that began with asking individuals to “pipe-up” about parks and recreation in the Municipality of Kincardine came full circle at last night’s council meeting with the receiving of a new Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan.

Consultations, with the guidance of McQueen Galloway Associates (MGA), began in the summer of 2023. Opportunities for the community to share their thoughts along with interviews with staff and Council form the foundation for the plan.

“The consultation confirmed that residents and visitors to this community are passionate about their recreational pursuits here,” said Jayne Jagelewski, director of community services. “The enthusiasm really highlights how this is a much-need document. It provides direction for the future of parks, facilities, and programs in the Municipality of Kincardine. That it’s built upon the information shared with us through community engagement speaks to its strength.”

In addition to the consultation process, MGA also reviewed policies, procedures, and previous reports, to give a well-rounded perspective to the plan.

Staff have already begun work on strategic implementation of the recommendations outlined in the plan in the months and years ahead. As a working document, it provides staff with opportunities to engage and inform council as they move through the 130 action items.

Jagelewski is excited to see the vision for the Municipality of Kincardine’s parks and recreation forming with more clarity: “This helps us to map a precise direction, from work plans through to budget and staffing needs. Thank you to everyone who took the time to ‘pipe up’ and make a difference.”

The final Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan along with the Situational Analysis Report used in the development of the plan are both available online.
