KINCARDINE, ON - The Lake Huron Coastal Centre's Coastal Conservation Youth Corps program is returning to Station Beach in Kincardine from July 11th to the 15th, 2025. 

The Coastal Conservation Youth Corps program is designed for students ages 14 to 18 who are interested in preserving our environment. Participants will engage in a weeklong program focusing on:

• Coastal habitat rehabilitation
• Water quality monitoring and protection
• Coastal monitoring
• Building a sustainable community 

The program provides youth with both exposure to a career in the environmental field and an understanding of what it means to be a steward of our coastal community. Some of the learning activities include:

• Dune restoration
• Invasive species removal
• Shoreline surveys
• Plant identification
• Beach clean-up

In July 2024, the program ran for the first time in Kincardine with 12 participants. Not only did they gain hands-on experience, but they also earned 30 hours of volunteer service in their community.

The Lake Huron Coastal Centre and the Municipality of Kincardine are extending their thanks to Bruce Power, whose Environmental and Sustainability Fund make it possible to run the program again this summer. Their dedication to youth education and support for real life experience improving the health of our coastal ecosystems is foundational to the success of the Youth Corps program.
