Much of Downtown Kincardine Reopens to Vehicles as the Downtown Dig Nears Completion
KINCARDINE, ON – The Municipality of Kincardine and the Kincardine BIA are pleased to announce that much of downtown Kincardine has reopened to vehicular traffic following this years’ Downtown Dig. Queen Street is now open between Lambton Street and Durham Market Square South with on-street parking available.
The downtown businesses joined in a quick celebration yesterday to cheer and celebrate the street re-opening. “This has been a major undertaking,” explains Cherie Leslie, Community Economic Development Coordinator for the Municipality of Kincardine. “There have been many enhancements made to the downtown, including new sidewalks, decorative concrete, accessibility upgrades, as well as the much-needed replacement of the aging underground infrastructure. It’s such an exciting - and long-awaited - day to reopen most of the street!”
Kincardine Downtown Development Manager, Amanda Goetz added, “Thanks everyone who continued to support the businesses throughout the Downtown Dig. For those that haven’t been downtown recently, we look forward to welcoming you back, and while you are here, make sure to bring your Downtown Dig Passport to collect your final stamps for the grand prize draw of $1,000 in BIA Bucks! The final draw takes place on November 17th.”
The rest of the Downtown Dig project is set for completion in November. Businesses are celebrating with a grand reopening in conjunction with Lakeside Downtown Kincardine’s annual Hometown Christmas event on Saturday, November 17th.
Leslie continued, “We also need to extend our thanks to our businesses, the community, BM Ross, Lavis Contracting, and their fellow contractors. Really anyone who has been a part of this massive construction project in any way. You have helped to make this a successful experience!”
Other streetscape items like a final layer of pavement, new planters, trees, garbage cans and benches will be in place in spring 2024. For more information and to subscribe to the Downtown Dig e-newsletter so you can stay up to date on the project, visit www.kincardine.ca/DowntownDig.
