KINCARDINE, ON – On Friday, September 6th, 2024, the Municipality of Kincardine and Bruce County hosted the summer meeting of the Canadian Association of Nuclear Host Communities (CANHC).

Both elected officials and staff from other member communities were in attendance including Clarington, Durham Region, Deep River, Pinawa, Northumberland County, and the Municipality of South Bruce.

The group of 20 members began their day with a morning bus tour of both the Municipality of Kincardine and the Bruce Power site, then gathered on Harbour Street at George’s for presentations and discussions.

“The Municipality of Kincardine is the host community to Bruce Power and a long-standing member of CANHC. It’s a great time to learn from other nuclear host communities and share the firsthand opportunities and challenges we face as a small community hosting some of Canada’s largest infrastructure projects currently underway and proposed in our community. It has been a fabulous day of learning and information sharing,” said Mayor Kenneth Craig.

He continued: “It’s an honour for us and the participating organizations like Bruce Power, the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), and Ontario Power Generation (OPG), to be able to open our doors to showcase everything happening in the nuclear industry right here in the Municipality of Kincardine.”

The CANHC is a not-for-profit association supporting local governments by acting as a resource for all current, future, and interested nuclear host communities. They do this while maintaining best interests of their communities in an ongoing proactive relationship with the Canadian nuclear industry and its regulators.

“On behalf of all the members of CANHC, I’d like to thank the Municipality of Kincardine for hosting such an informative and productive meeting. We’ll be looking forward to meetings in other host communities where we can get to better know each other and share ideas and best practices,” said Adrian Foster, CANHC chair and mayor of Clarington.
