Upcoming Open House to display concept design for Victoria Park in Kincardine

KINCARDINE, ON – This past June, the Municipality of Kincardine invited the community to an open house to consider and discuss plans for the revitalization of Victoria Park in downtown Kincardine. A come-and-go event on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, will highlight the new concept developed through the engagement process.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. everyone is welcome to drop in to the Davidson Centre’s Miller Insurance Room to see the concept and to chat with Pl.ural Inc., the consultancy assisting with ensuring that improvements help to make the park a space that’s welcoming and functional for everyone.

“Victoria Park is a space that is well used and loved in our community,” said Jayne Jagelewski, Director of Community Services. “This project is about making the space even more welcoming and to improve the usability of the area by all members of the community.”

The initial concepts presented at the beginning of summer we guided by five principles:

  • Maximizing safety – addressing aging infrastructure, improving access, and enhancing site barriers.
  • Creating spaces for everyone – improving accessibility, providing amenity, and mitigating barriers.
  • Affording performances – establishing space for performances, special events, and community gatherings.
  • Celebrating legacy – acknowledging, respecting, and celebrating park history, with special consideration to noteworthy spaces, trees, artifacts, and water.
  • Enhancing canopy cover – maintaining mature trees, and supplementing with new planting to ensure canopy longevity.

The new concept incorporates these principles along with the feedback gained through the previous open house and online surveying.

“We heard so many great thoughts and opinions about Victoria Park. We appreciate the enthusiasm and time taken by everyone. We cannot accommodate every request we heard, but this design represents as many of them as possible in a harmonious way while respecting the heritage aspects of the park.” commented Jagelewski.
