FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 8, 2023

New Meeting Format for the Municipality of Kincardine Council

KINCARDINE, ON – A year has nearly passed since the election of the current Municipality of Kincardine Council. As one of their priorities, they’re making changes to improve the transparency, relevance, efficiency, and ease of understanding when it comes to their meeting process.

Starting September 13th, Council meetings move to the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. There will be no more Committee of the Whole, streamlining their decision-making process. Approval for this new format came with Council’s adoption of a new Procedural By-Law at their meeting on August 14th.

Council meetings will continue to be available:

The release of agendas is on the Thursday prior to meetings, and they are available, along with minutes to previous meetings, on our website at: https://calendar.kincardine.ca/council.

As Council continues to improve their governance framework, they continue to recognize the importance that committees play in the decision-making process. They are eager to create committees that help move forward the strategic objectives of the Municipality. They want to ensure they do this in a relevant, efficient way that is representative of the community. This fall, Council is developing:

  • A policy that ensures the recruitment and appointment of members is done in a fair and equitable way.
  • A policy on committee administration providing a consistent and transparent framework for the establishment, operation, dissolution, and reporting of committees.
  • A standard Terms of Reference template to help committees ensure their mandate, goals, reporting structure, and membership roles are clear.
  • Ad-hoc committees that will provide Council with advice on specific topics with clearly defined questions, reporting deadlines, and end dates. As opportunities to participate on these ad-hoc committees come up, we’ll post them on a variety of channels.

Additional opportunities to become involved with local government are online at www.kincardine.ca/Get-Involved or contact the clerk’s department at 519-396-3468 ext. 7133.
