Yard Waste and Composting

Spring Compost Depots

Spring Compost sites will open April 17th, 2025 and close May 20th, 2024.
Kincardine Location is at 520 Bruce Ave. and the Tiverton location is on McLaren St. behind the arena.

Compostable materials should be in compost bags and acceptable materials include:

  • leaves
  • grass cuttings, not recently treated with pesticides or herbicides
  • sod
  • deadhead flowers and dead bulbs
  • bush and shrub trimmings
  • smaller twigs and woodchips (untreated)
  • burned wood ashes
  • peat pots and non-plastic plant trays
  • fallen birds nests
  • cut burlap sacks after use as pot and bedding liners
  • NO plastic items
  • NO large tree limbs
  • NO tree stumps

Please have your contents in brown paper leaf bags. The bin door will remain open, and we ask residents to walk items to the back of bin rather than placing at front to utilize space. Bins will be switched out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

PLEASE, if the bin(s) are full, wait to add your waste until there's a new bin. We'll have 1 bin at the Tiverton site and 3 at the Kincardine site.

Please, do not leave any garbage at these sites. The additional waste means staff hours and machinery costs to clean it up. These additional costs mean there's less budget for opening these sites in the future, if at all.

Compost can be taken year-round to the Kincardine Waste Management Centre when the temporary compost/yard waste depot sites are not open.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
