Yard Waste and Composting

Yard Waste Depot

Spring Compost sites

Spring compost sites are now closed. All compost can be taken to Armow Waste Management Centre.

Compostable materials should be in compost bags and acceptable materials include:

  • leaves
  • grass cuttings, not recently treated with pesticides or herbicides
  • sod
  • deadhead flowers and dead bulbs
  • bush and shrub trimmings
  • smaller twigs and woodchips (untreated)
  • burned wood ashes
  • peat pots and non-plastic plant trays
  • fallen birds nests
  • cut burlap sacks after use as pot and bedding liners
  • NO plastic items
  • NO large tree limbs
  • NO tree stumps

Please, do not leave any yard waste (or other garbage) at these sites, especially once they're closed for the season. The additional waste means staff hours and machinery costs to clean it up. These additional costs mean there's less budget for opening these sites in the future, if at all.

Compost can be taken year-round to the Armow Waste Management Centre when the temporary compost/yard waste depot sites are not open.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
